Random illos

I added the background on this one digitally. I don't usually do too much digitally, but I'm pleased with how this turned out.
Anyone have any suggestions for painting fog? I'm not unhappy with the illo, but the fog didn't quite turn out as I had imagined in my mind.

Really cute illos Michelle! I'm in the same 'boat' as you are with digital, I just added a digital background to my 'adrift' entry, and I'm surprisingly happy with it. Yours came out great, I love that color! I think for your fog, you just need to 'wash out' where your fog is covering. I've painted for many years before working in colored pencil, and I've found that if you paint the foggy areas lighter or blot them that works. Or if you're not a watercolor purist you can go over with some opaque white to lighten things up. Hope that was of some help, but you may want to check with Shirley, she's a watercolor expert in case you're not familiar with her work:

Hi Michelle,

I was thinking that if it were foggy the lighthouse in the background wouldn't be so visible. I guess my suggestion is similar to Susan's - you could wash out sections with white gouache (or even try it in Photoshop). Especially the areas with very defined lines. Love the action going on!

I like the digital background you did also - it adds drama.

These are so sweet and nice and loose and free. I really love what you done with each of them. You are just moving on up and out and it looks FABULOUS!!!!! I agree with Susan. I just love what you've done. Great job!
