More Ripples

So many great things are happening at Ripple.  Money is being raised, animals are being saved.  But there is so much more that still needs to be done.  So, the artwork keeps coming.

Experts say the Gulf's marshes, beaches and coastal waters, which nurture a dazzling array of life, could be transformed into killing fields, though the die-off could take months or years and unfold largely out of sight. The damage could be even greater beneath the water's surface, where oil and dispersants could devastate zooplankton and tiny invertebrate communities at the base of the aquatic food chain.


It seems futile, doesn't it?   What can we possibly do to help?   It'll take time, but each small step we take is an important one.    You've probably all heard Loren Eiseley's story of "The Star Thrower," where the little girl tosses sea stars back into the ocean after they wash up on shore.  When asked "why bother, there are hundreds of them along the shore - you can't save them all - it won't make a difference" she responds "it makes a difference to this one."

Be the Change You Want to See in the World

An amazing fellow illustrator friend, Kelly Light, was tired of feeling helpless and hopeless in the midst of the Deep Water Horizon Gulf Oil Spill disaster.  So rather than sit idly by shaking her head and saying "what a shame" she has organized a fantastic fundraiser to raise money for The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, and the International Bird Rescue Research Center.

Illustrators from far and wide are donating sketch cards to Ripple (If we all do small acts together - we can cause a ripple - and it can grow).   With each $10 donated to help the animal victims of the Deep Water Horizon Gulf Oil Spill, the illustrator will mail out a signed copy of your chosen card.    Not only are you helping DO something, you're also getting some outstanding artwork in the process!
