Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson
We've started reading a new bedtime story in our house: Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. We haven't gotten far into the book yet; however, the first several chapters are beautifully written. It was difficult to put the book down. After I tucked the girls into bed, I realized that for the first time in weeks, I could sit down and draw without feeling guilty. (The most pressing boxes from our move have been unpacked!!) I needed to draw Isabel, Ruth and the haughty Mrs. Lockton.

This is the story of the defining moment in Isabel¿s life where the decisions and those of both parties involved in the war broaden her view of the injustices that have faced her race. It is an eye opening book to any young adult student. Its portrayal of the time period serves justice to the truth that marked African American¿s lives during this era. The reader must come face to face with their own emotions as they are carried through the story on the edge of their seat.
